The Police and Firefighter Tribute Plaza was officially unveiled in January 2006 to pay tribute to the nine Calgary firefighters and 11 police officers who have given their lives in the line of duty since the inception of both departments in 1885. The Tribute Plaza also recognizes the courage and commitment of current firefighters and police officers who put their lives on the line to ensure a safe community. The monument recognizes the outstanding courage, commitment and service of Calgary’s Firefighters and Police officers and commemorates those who have lost their lives in the line of duty. Calgary Police Band play during the unveiling of the Police Officers & Firefighters Tribute on Calgary City Hall Plaza. Alderman Larocque and Tom Minhinnett, Tuxedo Community Association President and descendent of former Fire Chief Tom Minhinnett are present at the unveling. The Police officers’ core values are honesty, integrity, ethnics, respect, fairness & compassion, courage and commitment. The Fire Departments’ core values are teamwork, professionalism, pride and respect.
